Front-end / Product Design Engineer

Why this role

Pathion is a small team shipping a technical-interview and recruiting-readiness platform to CS students, most of them first in their family to go into tech. The product works; the interface is where we are behind. Problem pages, onboarding, the dashboard and the marketing site were built by engineers moving fast, and every rough edge costs a student a session.

We want one person who can take a screen from a sketch to production: design the flow, build it in React, and keep the design system honest.

What you'll do

• Redesign and rebuild student-facing flows: onboarding, the problem workspace, progress and the weekly plan
• Extend the Pathion design system (tokens, components, docs) and keep the Claude Design source and the React kit in sync
• Ship in Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind, with tests, behind flags, on a one-review-then-merge cadence
• Run quick usability checks with students and turn what you hear into the next iteration
• Own the marketing site's pages with the founders: landing pages, event pages, services

You'll be a fit if

• You have shipped production interfaces in React (Next.js a plus) and can show them
• You design in Figma or a comparable tool and can explain the decisions, not just the pixels
• You care about accessibility, performance on cheap phones and copy that reads like a person wrote it
• You are comfortable working directly with founders, students and a small engineering team on Discord
• Bonus: you have taught, tutored or mentored, or you remember your own first technical interview vividly

How we'll work

• Remote, US time zones; occasional in-person sessions in the DC / Maryland / Virginia area if you are nearby
• Hours, start date and compensation are agreed in screening: full-time, part-time and contract shapes are all on the table
